Crafted From Experience.
Made to Mean Something.
Our StoryEtch A Stone may be a new way to personalize your home, celebrate a family, or create a one-of-a-kind gift — but the craftsmanship behind it has been generations in the making.
Our family has spent decades working with natural stone, lettering, engraving and design. Etch A Stone brings that experience to something a little different: personalized stone pieces made to be enjoyed every day.
Four Generations. One Standard.
Real stone. Skilled craftsmanship. Work we’re proud to put our name on.
BUILT ON A FAMILY TRADE
The Work Started Long Before Etch A Stone.
The roots behind Etch A Stone stretch back through generations of the Johns family and a lifetime spent working with stone.
The family’s experience dates to 1968, when John Johns Sr. began learning the monument and lettering trade alongside his father, Clayton Johns. What started with traditional hand skills grew through the years into a family business built around engraving, lettering, design and stonework.
John’s sons eventually joined him in the trade, and today a fourth generation continues that tradition.
Through businesses including Findlay Monument Company and Trinity Lettering, the family has spent decades creating permanent work in stone for families, homes, businesses and communities throughout Ohio.
Etch A Stone grew naturally from that experience.
A DIFFERENT KIND OF STONEWORK
Taking the Craft Beyond the Monument Shop.
After years of engraving names, artwork, addresses and custom designs into stone, the idea behind Etch A Stone was simple:
Why not use that same equipment, experience and craftsmanship to create something people can enjoy at home?
That idea became personalized address stones, family monograms, outdoor and camping designs, memorial pieces, inspirational designs and custom creations made from genuine quarried stone.
It isn’t a molded concrete product made to look like stone.
It starts with the real thing.
And because natural stone has its own shape, texture and character, no two finished pieces are exactly alike.
FROM THE SHOP
Made by People Who Know Stone.
A personalized stone might begin with a name, address or design on a screen, but the finished product still depends on experienced eyes and hands.
John Johns Jr. has spent his career working throughout the family stone business — designing, engraving, sandblasting and handling the day-to-day details that turn an idea into finished work.
Every Etch A Stone design is reviewed before engraving so the layout works with the individual piece of stone in front of us.
That matters because real stone isn’t perfectly uniform.
And that’s part of what makes it special.
“Quality is remembered long after the price.”
A family standard passed down through generations.
STILL A FAMILY BUSINESS
Four Generations and Counting.
What began with one generation learning the lettering trade has continued through sons, grandsons and decades of work in stone.
Today, members of the Johns family remain involved throughout the operation — from helping customers and creating designs to engraving, shop work and on-site stone lettering.
Technology has changed. The tools have changed.
But the expectation hasn’t:
Do good work.
Treat people well.
Make something that lasts.
Make It Personal.
Make It Last.
Every Etch A Stone begins with real stone and ends with something uniquely yours.
Whether it marks your home, celebrates your family, remembers someone special or becomes a gift they’ll never expect, we’re proud to make it for you.
